Is it that time?

There comes a time in all living thing's lives when it is time to die.With people we try to keep loved ones alive until the bitter end;using extreme measures such as feeding tubes ,ventilators,and such.Some people think that people should have a right to die with dignity,since by the time these extreme measures are used,the quality of life has diminished to a point that it is not worth living

Is your vehicle at this stage in it's life?

Many people get almost too sentimental about their car.There car may have been with them through many memorable events in there life.such as meeting a spouse or girlfriend,college times,or maybe moving all you worldly possesions to a new life in another part of the country.

Getting attached and emotionally involved with a car also happens because frequently people put considerable money into the buying,maintaining,fixing,and customization of their vehicle.The problem with this approach is;

It's not a person!..or even a pet!

The expression "don't love anything that can't love you back" comes to mind.Getting involved emotionally with your car leads to bad financial descisons.

What you need to do is think logically about the true costs .Not just in the present month but things such as ;what major and minor repairs are called for and likely to be on the horizion for"your baby"?.Does the car still look good?.Ask a impartial person..not a friend who will tell you what he thinks you want to hear.Is the engine or transmission giving warning signs of problems?.People usually say they were suprised.But few serious mechanical problem have no symptoms.Is the transmission still shifting smoothly?slippin?overdrive not working or shuddering?is it hard to get the shifter into gear?Is the clutch pedal near the floor to go in gear?Is there a knock coming from the motor?.Is there a drip or leak under the vehicle?In areas of the country where rust is a problem;is the frame or floor developing rot through?.If your State requires inspections..honestly..will it pass?if not what will it cost to get it ready for inspection?.Do you have a estimate

But Isn't my car still valuable to a buyer that wants to keep on driving it?or fix it up a bit?.Well it may be ! .A good way to start is to check theactual book value..not what your buddy says its worth!

many times this is a dose of reality!

If the costs of repairing the vehicle exceeds the book value;there is nothing to think about ..it should be scrapped;as you are throwing good money after bad.The way an insurance company "totals" a car is the same.Insurance companies know investments;use the same calculating formula and save your money for a vehicle with more of a future.

You may have read about gold reaching record prices recently.This tends to pull up the price of all metals including steel .What this means is you may get more for your car than you think!

In addition if your car is less than 10 years[especially less than 5 yrs old] old it may have additional value to scrap buyers for the valuable parts.So how do you find people who will buy your car?.A easy way is to visita scrap buyers directorysuch as this or the ones that are listed on the right column of this blog.
